Job Description: HR Legal Counsel
Position Overview:
The HR Legal Counsel is responsible for providing expert legal advice and guidance on all HR-related matters within the organization. This role plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations, mitigating legal risks, and safeguarding the rights and interests of both the company and its employees. The HR Legal Counsel collaborates closely with HR professionals, senior management, and external legal counsel to develop and implement effective strategies and policies.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide legal advice and support on all HR-related matters, including but not limited to employment contracts, terminations, employee relations, discrimination, harassment, and disciplinary actions.
2. Develop, review, and update HR policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal employment laws and regulations.
3. Conduct legal research and analysis to stay up-to-date with evolving HR laws and regulations, and proactively communicate any changes or updates to relevant stakeholders.
4. Collaborate with HR professionals and management to address complex employee relations issues, ensuring fair and consistent treatment of employees while minimizing legal risks.
5. Oversee investigations into employee complaints, allegations of misconduct, or policy violations, ensuring thoroughness, confidentiality, and compliance with legal obligations.
6. Participate in the negotiation and drafting of employment contracts, severance agreements, and other legal documents related to HR processes.
7. Provide legal guidance on labor relations matters, collective bargaining agreements, and union-related issues.
8. Monitor and assess legal risks associated with HR practices and policies, and recommend proactive measures to mitigate potential liabilities.
9. Develop and deliver training programs to HR professionals and management on legal compliance, employment law updates, and best practices.
10. Collaborate with external legal counsel, as required, to handle complex legal matters, litigation, and dispute resolutions related to HR issues.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
2. Active membership in the state bar association or equivalent legal licensing authority.
3. Minimum of [X] years of experience as a practicing attorney, with a focus on employment law or HR-related legal matters.
4. Thorough knowledge of local, state, and federal employment laws and regulations.

11. Proficient in using legal research tools and technology to stay informed about changes in employment laws and regulations.
